"There are no mistakes."

(From the archival writings and lecture notes of Edward Eberle)

Dogma

In the process, there are no mistakes.

Drawing is a lie.

Avoid dogmatic statements.

Mantra   as it relates to PROCESS

Clay-ness. Allow the clay to be clay .

Be present.  One must be totally present at all times in the process; there is no such thing as an insignificant movement or detail.

Encourage gesture.  Let ‘body’ be dominant.

Constants

Practice, practice, practice.

Show up.

All important is the encounter – not intention, purpose, preconception, objective [aim],…

Be thoroughly prepared for the encounter.  All bets are off as soon as the brush hits the canvas, or the word is jotted down, or the first note is played, or the first movement in dance, …

My physical or emotional state has nothing to do with it. Has nothing to do with ‘me’.

Walking through the door into the studio, I am grateful and thankful for the opportunity of the day and delighted, lucky to have this space, this studio.

Walking through the door into the studio, I am a blank slate – also, art and/or craft is a non-issue.

Hopelessly and thoroughly addicted to the process.

I love to throw, I love to draw. I’m lucky to have found a way to do both.
